Tri Vegas

Jennifer and I took a trip this last weekend to Vegas for a drive-through wedding (I wish) - well, that didn't quite happen, but it was our first road trip together. We stayed with my sister in St. George one night and left for Vegas in the morning (after Jennifer and my sister finished doddling at the fabric store). The triathlon was in the afternoon and there was a lot of debate about who of the brothers was going to win. I had my money on Greg, but Mike pulled a fast one (literally) and beat everyone. Jennifer was our team photographer, Mike posed for his big win, and Greg and I were mad as hornets after losing. Other than that we had a great time. It was a great venue and it was so nice to feel the sun and remember what summer is like.

What Happens in Vegas...

Congratulations to Pic (Mike) for his strong race and win! Kind of makes me worried because he was able to beat me by six minutes after signing up at the last minute and without much training. But I echo Pic's (Greg's) remarks when he said, "I want a rematch!"
The "Showdown at Sundown" at the Las Vegas Lake was a great race. We enjoyed the ritzy atmosphere of Vegas, the warmer temperatures for this time of year, and a half-way point to meet up with Greg. I think we found ourselves an annual tradition. We all agreed though that it would be more complete if Doug was there...just saying.
I thought I had no business doing this race since I really hadn't trained properly. I expected to do a lot worse, but outside of some tough cramps in T2 coming off the bike and not being able to (Picante Sauce) "pick up the pace" during the run - it really did end up going a lot better than imagined.

Some highlights include:
  • Greg's goggles malfunctioning and having to swim the 1500 meters without them - I can't even imagine that!
  • The X-Terra-ish difficulty of the hills on the course . . . not messing around down there!
  • Greg passed me during T2 with his consistently fast bike time - so the only tap on the head this race was when I caught him again on the run.
  • Mike taking the lead out on the swim (posing for the pictures taken by our professional team photographer, Jennifer) and never looking back, never getting passed, and winning the day!
Really though, it just feels great to be racing again and trying to get back in shape. Also, to spend time with Greg & Kellie, visit the Heaps Foundation, and have the Parentals there to support us.

Recap:
  1. Mike Snarr (2:40:56) - smok'n fools!
  2. Sam Snarr (2:46:59)
  3. Greg Snarr (2:51:35)
  4. Doug Snarr (DNS - Did not start) - You'll have to start racing if you want to get out of 4th place!
Rematch - May 15th???

A Little Wedding Inspiration

Here is just a taste of some of the wedding inspiration I have come across. I'm loving these monochromatic schemes of blues, browns, and greens. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what is to come on our big day.

Pieces of our wedding are starting to come together, which is wonderful. My dress arrived this week! It is a fabulous little vintage inspired T Length beauty, it is too adorable to even describe. :) We were also able to find Sam an amazing three-peice suit at of all places...the D.I. We were lucky to come across such a find. Sam and I are getting excited! It will be so nice to get to the point where we no longer have to say goodbye to each other and go our separate ways. I love you more than you know Sam! Less than three months to go....

Christmas Day hike w/the Pop Cam

Christmas 2009 the Snarr singles, the semi-singles, Greg, Kellie, and the dogs.

My co-worker Dirk let me borrow his awesome Pop Cam he got at the D.I for 25 cents. This is a point and shoot camera that takes 4 frames per shot. We used it while we hiked up Ferguson Canyon. Here are the results...

The Engagement Story

It all started on a spring afternoon at Quizno's . . . fast-forward nine months to a couple weeks ago and Jennifer and I are picking out our engagement ring. We find the ring at an Antique Jeweler in Salt Lake called Antoinette's. I forget the guys name, but he was great to work with - a stark contrast from most everywhere we went. We talked about putting it on lay-away until I could come up with enough funds to purchase it outright.
The next Monday I went in and got the ring keeping Jennifer under the impression that it was reserved with a down payment. It took me till Friday before I could get Jennifer to another Jeweler's shop to get her finger sized since the ring was a tad too big. I then scheduled to talk to her Father, David, about wanting to marry his daughter. As always he was the nicest guy and while talking to him he made me feel very welcome and comfortable. He gave me his approval and made me that much more excited to be a part of their family.
Then first thing the next day I went in to get the ring sized and appraised. It was going to be ready on Friday . . . so I figured that was the day. I planned an activity in the snow - making snowmen and shooting with her new Diana F+ camera for the first time. The weather didn't cooperate so we ended up changing plans to Saturday morning - January 23rd. There wasn't any snow in the valley so we went up Big Cottonwood where there was plenty of snow to spare. Parking near the entrance of the Dog Lake trail head we proceeded to attempt a Snow-Sam and a Snow-Jen.

The snow would have been great for riding, but wasn't packing well at all. So we ended up just making mini-snowmen, but it still did the trick. Snow-Jen was decked out with blue button eyes and a hat-scarf, while mine had red-sunshades and a Ute scarf. Mine also was strategically designed with his right 'stick-arm' reaching forward toward Snow-Jen. While Jennifer's back was turned changing cameras I placed the ring box on the outreached stick.

After a couple more shots she still hadn't noticed the box so I mentioned how it was funny that mine looked like it was giving hers something. That caught her attention and she went over to get the box. She paused and looked back at me, warning, "This isn't a mean joke is it?" I reassured her and then she picked up the box. All too giddy, she opened it . . . and . . . it was empty. She looked at me sternly and confused as I quickly showed her the ring in my hand. After some odd, but cute, noises came out of her with excitement I got down on one knee and properly proposed. She said yes, luckily, and then there we were - officially engaged to be married to each other for time and all eternity! June 16th will not come soon enough. . .

Encierro

The most famous "running of the bulls" are found in Spain and Mexico. Anyone can participate and show off their bravery (or stupidity) and run along the streets with these large animals. It is very common for someone to get trampled or gored during these events.
Now I like to run, I can enjoy a race, and I can even appreciate a little taste of danger to get the adrenalin going. But why one would put oneself in that situation on purpose is beyond me. I think sometimes those guys are just out for a jog minding their own business and next thing they know someone got the bulls running next to them and some fancy foot work is needed to get out of there. That's what happened to me anyway. I was biking along minding my own business when Devon decides to startle the beasts by yelling some Indian war-cry at them. They get into a full sprint right next to me with this crazy, confused, yet angry look in their eyes. And suddenly one turns and darts right at me. I peddled as fast as my chicken legs would carry me and had to swerve off the trail as this ten-ton monster just misses my rear tire!
So as far as races go, I don't recommend an encierro - you won't ever catch me on a road trying to outrun one of those...unless you're Mike and you're in Grover...then I suppose you already have.
